FULBRIGHT/AMERICAN POLITICAL SCIENCE ASSOCIATION (APSA)

We are pleased to announce grant opportunities for three or four foreign senior scholars and professionals coming from eligible countries, including Indonesia, under the FY2007 Fulbright/American Political Science Association (APSA) Congressional Fellowship Program.

The program is a twelve-month grant designed to give foreign scholars and professionals the opportunity to study the workings of Congress as a Congressional fellow and staff person working full time in a Congressional office for approximately six months of the grant. Other periods of the grant are devoted to seminars and enrichment activities. The average class is a diverse group of mid-career U.S. political science professors and journalists, U.S. government domestic and foreign affairs policy specialists, health policy physicians and health-care professionals, and five or six international fellows in addition to the Fulbright/APSA Fellows. The Fulbright/APSA Fellowship is not designed to be a research program. Grantees will have an opportunity to do some research in the initial two months and in the final month of the grant, but not during the Fellowship period at the U.S. Congress.

Eligibility Criteria:

1. Applicants must be an Indonesian citizen;
2. Applicants may be academics, journalists, or public policy professionals with a scholarly interest in the U.S. Congress and the policymaking process and committed to making a significant contribution to the understanding of the political process by the general public. Their expertise should be within the following fields: political science including comparative political systems and legislative / parliamentary studies, communications / journalism, public policy administration, sociology, or law.
3. Applicants must understand and speak English at a near-native level of fluency;
4. Applicants must have a graduate (S-1) degree or the equivalent in professional training or experience;

FULBRIGHT ASEAN VISITING SCHOLARS PROGRAM 2008-09

The Fulbright Program is pleased to announce a new opportunity for Fulbright Visiting Scholars, The Fulbright ASEAN Visiting Scholars Program. The purpose of this new initiative is to provide opportunities for travel to the United States for scholarly and professional research on issues central to the ASEAN-U.S. relationship. The program is open to university faculty, foreign ministry and government officials, and professional staff of think tanks and other NGOs in ASEAN member nations.

PARTICIPATING COUNTRIES
For 2008-09, the inaugural year of the program, applications will be invited from interested individuals in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.

ELIGIBILITY
University faculty, foreign ministry and government officials, and professionals in think tanks and other NGOs whose work focuses on ASEAN-U.S. issues are eligible to apply. Fields of inquiry may include economics, political economy, foreign policy, international relations, and history, including such relevant sub-specialties as security, trade, and cultural issues directly related to the ASEAN-U.S. relationship. Applicants will be expected to have a significant record of scholarly or professional accomplishment; they must be citizens of their countries; and they must be proficient in English. Preference will be given to qualified applicants who have not had recent and substantial experience in the United States.

PROJECTS
Proposals should be carefully developed projects that will deepen the applicant’s understanding of one or more aspects of the ASEAN-U.S. relationship. While it is expected that the majority of time will be spent in research, grantees are also encouraged to expand and develop their network of professional contacts so that professional relationships established during the grantee’s time in the U.S. can be sustained after the formal grant period has ended. In addition, grantees will be encouraged to seek opportunities to voice the Southeast Asian perspective during their time in the U.S. through guest lectures, seminars, or participation in academic or professional conferences. All applicants are urged to explore possible affiliations with U.S. institutions, including universities, think tanks and research institutes, in advance of submitting their formal applications. Letters of invitation will enable program organizers to make the most suitable affiliations.

INTERNATIONAL LEADERSHIP IN EDUCATION PROGRAM (ILEP)

GENERAL PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The American Indonesia Exchange Foundation (AMINEF) is pleased to announce the availability of Fulbright scholarships to study in the United States for the 2009 – 2010 academic year. The primary focus of the Fulbright Program in Indonesia is to promote mutual understanding between the Republic of Indonesia and the United States of America through educational exchange and academic scholarship. Fulbright scholarships are available to Indonesian citizens with the appropriate qualifications as stipulated in the program descriptions listed below.
PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT

The International Leadership in Education Program (ILEP) is a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, and is implemented by IREX (the International Research & Exchanges Board), a Washington, DC based non-profit organization. ILEP will provide 52 teachers from the Near East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia with unique opportunities to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills and increase their knowledge about the United States. The program will consist of a semester-long academic program at a U.S. university, including coursework and intensive training in teaching methodologies, curriculum development, teaching strategies for their home environment, educational leadership, as well as the use of computers for Internet, word processing and as tools for teaching. The semester-long program, which will commence in January 2008 and conclude in June 2008, will also include an internship at a secondary school to engage participants actively with the American teachers and students. Trips to U.S. cultural sites and academic support will be provided for participants throughout the program.
